What is History Bounding

The history of History Bounding

This is my teal Edwardian walking skirt paired with an Edwardian sport blouse and a Victorian style waistcoat (vest).

Have you ever heard the term, “Disney Bounding?”  That is when people dress up in clothes in the colors of their favorite Disney characters when they visit one of the Disney parks.  They do that because there is a rule that you can’t dress up as a character.

Back in 2020, Morgan Donner coined the phrase, “History Bounding.,” in her video, ” HISTORYBOUNDING || Wearing Historical Fashions in Your Everyday Wardrobe

Simply put, history bounding is encorporating historical style clothing with modern clothes in your everyday life.

This could mean wearing an entire outfit based on historical fashion (as my photo on the left) or it could be as simple as wearing a historically inspired piece of clothing along with your regular modern clothes.

Mix and match different eras or combine them with modern fashion. The possibilities are endless and completely up to you!  Long before I saw Morgan’s video, I had fallen down the YouTube rabbit hole of historical fashion.

Here’s the front view of my Edwardian teal outfit.

I spent hours watching and learning about historical fashion.  Why?  Because all my life I’ve loved long  skirts, but could never find a long skirt style that I truly liked.

As I watched more and more historical clothing videos I discovered that the skirt styles I love are actually historical patterns!  My fist being the Edwardian fan skirt, then the Victorian walking skirt and more recently the 18th century over petticoat (skirt)!

I continued learning long before I put thread and needle to fabric.  I learned historical sewing techniques as well as how to properly wear these clothing pieces (proper undergarments) to recreate the sillouetteI wanted.

Appropriate foundational garments are key to the historical sillouette!

The rest was history! (pun intended!)  I began collecting the patterns I needed and started on a journey of creating my own personal historical style!  I can’t begin to express how wonderful it feels wearing garments that are quite literally made to my measurement!

Stay tuned for more details of creating my historically inspired wardrobe!

Until next time…

Keep Creating!
